The Evil Dead

The Evil DeadI remember watching Sam Raimi’s classic film ‘The Evil Dead’ starring Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, and Betsy Baker when it was released in 1981.

It was in 1984 when this American horror film was then turned into a computer classic survival horror and adventure game.  Written by Richard Leinfellner, Palace Software released this game for the Commodore 64 and the Sinclair zx spectrum although it was never released on it own for the spectrum, the game came free when you purchased a copy of the game Cauldron.

The game doesn’t have to many similarities to the film version but it is set in the cabin where the player controls Ash (playerd by Bruce Campbell).  He must try to close the open windows of the cabin, this will prevent various monsters and creatures from entering and trying to kill him.

Ash does have weapons to help him in his battle with the use of axes shovels & shotguns although they appears and disappear so you need to be quick.  Ash must constantly pick up these weapons as they will increase his constantly depleting energy levels.

Once he has defeated all the monsters, Ash must obtain ‘The Book of the Dead’ and destroy it by throwing it into the fire in order to defeat the evil.

This game is quite rare so expect to pay up to £20 if you can find one.
